About Rod:

Rod has been practising as a classical homeopath for over 20 years. Having completed his degree at the Australian College of Natural Medicine, Brisbane, QLD (Endeavour College), he then undertook advanced studies in Calcutta under Dr. Subrata Bannerji.
His initial practice was part of a sports clinic in Brisbane working with a wide spectrum of athletes and general public. He now works between the Gold Coast and Byron Bay regions.

As a classical homeopath, Rod's aim is to treat the patient as a whole person, encompassing the body, mind and spirit. Hence, during the consultation, he collects information about the client on the physical, mental and emotional levels, taking into account their uniqueness. This allows him to create a total picture that can then be matched to a known remedy of similar characteristics.

For this reason, an initial consultation may require up to 1½ hours.
If your problem is of the acute nature then a specific remedy aimed at alleviating the symptoms may be necessary for a quick result. Following this, constitutional treatment may be recommended to strengthen one's overall immunity and bring the body back into balance.

What is Homoeopathy?

Homoeopathy is a system of medicine which was developed in the 18th Century by a German physician and chemist, Samuel Hahnemann.

Hahnemann found that many substances could produce symptoms when administered to a healthy person.  He also found that illness could be cured by using small, specially prepared doses of a substance which was capable of causing symptoms similar to the illness.

For example, coffee stimulates the nervous system and the production of urine.  A homoeopathic dose of coffee can cure a patient troubled with unusual mental activity and sleeplessness together with excessive production of urine.

In the last 200 years, its effectiveness has been clearly established and today, homoeopathy is used worldwide.

It is used in the treatment of chronic illness, acute conditions and minor accidents which require first aid.

How does Homoeopathy differ from conventional medicine?

Conventional medicine is based on a concept of diseases and agents that cause such disease, (eg. bacteria, virus) and the resulting pathological or physiological changes.  Treatment aims to relieve the symptoms.

Homoeopathy views all symptoms as an indication of an underlying state of ill health that affects the whole person, not just one or two body systems.

Treatment acts as a catalyst, stimulating and directing the body's own healing energy towards the resolution of states of imbalance, disorder or disease.

What does a visit to a Homoeopath involve?

This may take up to an hour.  You will be asked questions relating to your physical symptoms and your past medical history.

In addition, you may be asked about your eating habits, sleep patterns, lifestyle, and about some of your mental and emotional characteristics.  A physical examination may be conducted according to the particular needs of your case.

What type of medicine will be given?

Homoeopathic medicine is derived from plant, animal and mineral sources.  They are prepared following strict homoeopathic pharmaceutical guidelines and can be given as liquid or globules.  The remedy may contain little or none of the original substance but carries its energy and healing stimulating properties.

You may be given a single dose or repeated doses of a single remedy.  These small amounts of medicine are sufficient to stimulate the body's healing process.

Where illness has developed over a long time, several successive remedies may be needed during the course of weeks, months or years.

Are there any side effects?

Healing takes place in different ways, and reactions to a remedy vary.  Sometimes there is an immediate healing.  Sometimes it begins with an increased feeling of well being even though symptoms initially remain.  In some cases, old symptoms recur as part of the healing process.  Occasionally, there is temporary worsening of the symptoms prior to an improvement.

Can Homoeopathic remedies be taken with conventional medicines?

Homoeopathic remedies may be taken with conventional drugs.

To ensure maximum benefit from your medication:
  • The remedy is usually taken away from food or drink, or as directed by your practitioner.
  • Avoid taking the remedy immediately after using tobacco, alcohol, coffee or toothpaste.
  • Store the remedy away from heat and strong smelling substances such as perfumes, mentholated liniments, and camphor.
